LO extraction

What is the difference between below 2 approaches for LO extraction

1.Early delta Initialization

2.First doing Init without data transfer and then filling set up tables

I guess both approaches have same logic then Why SAP introduced this term Early delta initilazation when this can be handled by 2nd approach?
